Learn more about WUGspace community member and WhatsUp Gold user Albert Arellano, and how he and his team are using WUG at the University of Denver.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I started working at the University of Denver about 20 years ago. There were no data networks in any of the buildings, so we had to pull and polish the fiber, and connect all of the Cisco routers together. At that time, we used Micom terminal servers for networking and later added core routers to the main closets on campus. We needed a product to notify us when, say, a Cisco router went down, so we purchased WhatsUp Gold.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a systems manager at A. Porr AG, a construction company based in Austria but with locations in Germany, Switzerland, and several countries in Eastern Europe. I first used WhatsUp Gold in a previous position, but when that company was purchased by Porr, I brought WUG over with me. I needed to start from scratch, scanning the network and adding devices. I've been using WUG for around 10 years in total. I have nine employees on my team, but I'm the only one…

Tell us a little about yourself
Steve: We work in the IT department within Ipswitch. We've actually just finished moving offices, which was a big project from an IT standpoint. WUG was monumentally helpful, though, since we already had our devices discovered and mapped.

I'm the Manager of IT at Tallan, a technology-focused consulting firm. I've been using WhatsUp Gold a long time, for at least six years, and was originally introduced to it by a client.
How are you using WUG?
I'm using it internally within Tallan as well as with a Tallan client, each operating a different version of the software. At Tallan, we have a very small IT department; I manage the network and one additional person receives the alerts but doesn't use…
Learn more about WhatsUp Gold user RJ Davis, and how he implements WUG on his university's campus.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm the IT guy at Radford University, which had WhatsUp Gold at least three years before I came along. I actually came from using Nagios, but found WUG very intuitive and easy to learn. Nagios needed some heavy lifting to get configured. I had a pretty good understanding of systems administration and network management practices, but no prior WUG experience.
How are you using WUG?
We have only one campus, but we monitor a remote site 45 minutes away. There…

We want our users sharing their experiences to spark creativity among all users on how they can get the most out of their WUG installation. We have a number of things in the works currently, like interviews and webinars. All of this information and thought sharing will be in this blog.
To start things off, about a month ago, we ran a community program…
